This is in regards to the ISNA matrimonials at the islamic society of north america that they hold every year. I sent my two daughters to these matrimonials. I was very unhappy b/c my older daughter was stuck in the 'older age' category and there were only a small group of men for her to talk to. The other 'categories' had many men to choose from and interact with. As general discrimination, the MEN were allowed to choose what age group they wanted to be with but the women couldn't? This is VERY discriminatory towards women. I know that ISLAM does not promote this kind of discrimination or practices. The Prophet Muhammad himself was first married to a woman 15 years his senior!! Yet, these matrimonial banquets clearly discriminate against women who are 33 years and older, and 33 is not even an old age. Of course most men will try to choose the 'younger female age category' over the older one. They NEED to change these discriminatory practices towards women. Islam doesn't promote this kind of discrimination at ALL. What kind of "Muslim community" are you that you in fact organize a matrimonial service in this way? You're in fact giving plenty of options to YOUNGER women who have them anyway while BLATANTLY wronging older females who already have lesser options. You should in fact be giving the older women better options and chances rather than already giving them less and punishing them almost for being of older age. This is really NOT OK. The men can choose what age group they want but the women can't? This is clearly discriminatory towards women. How can an organization that has such progressive thinkers and speakers have such backwards practices at their events. It's really shameful. I plan to write a long letter to the *** who organizes this matrimonial service and the people that run it. It's really awful and something needs to be done about it. Also some of the moderators there particularly an older indian woman or pakistani woman goes around being rude to some of the women there. Disgusting and immoral practices really, shame on you ISNA for this.
