Gift card fraud

I wanted to talk to someone live. I have an issue with a gift card. I purchased an item for $145 and had a $100 gift card to use. After entering the 13 digit number it said The number was linked to a different account. How can that be? I just scratched it off right now. If I cant use the gift card I want to cancel the purchase User's recommendation: eBay has joined the robotics world and it sucks.
