Don’t ever try to leave Ryder, or else.

Don't ever try to return a truck off lease unless you're planning on leasing another one. They'll screw you EVERY which way they can. I have 2 leased vehicles, a truck and a van. The van came off lease and I decided to get into a larger vehicle from another provider so the van was going back. This van had an initial book cost of $35K and after 7 years of leasing with 100K miles built in, had a residual value of 21K, meaning a simple cargo van had depreciated by less than half after 7 years, which is 1 year over the effective life of a cargo van. They then wanted the van back in the same condition that it was given to me. I fixed any damage that was in excess of "normal wear and tear" (bumpers, rear doors, 1 broken head lamp) and returned the vehicle. I was given a quote for an additional $3600 for what they considered normal wear and tear which included ALL dings in the side panel, ALL dings in the interior floor. I ended up agreeing to pay half and while they had the vehicle fixed, they continued to charge for the lease at $2K/month for an additional month and a half while they said the van was in the shop. All in all, it cost me over 7K, just to return the van off lease. Oh and by the way, when I returned my last van and signed a new lease for this one, I didn't fix a thing and didn't pay a penny. Interesting how that works. Well, I won't be leasing from Ryder any more and I wouldn't even recommend them to my ccompetitor.
