Where to start with BMO? They do nothing to help you any more than any other reputable bank would. $200 to open an account when most banks rarely ever charge over $100, many big ones (for example BoFA and Capital One) even completely parting ways with required minimum opening deposits. $12 monthly maintenance fee if you fall under a specific threshold, pretty normal for a bank, however their thresholds are AWFUL: $500 direct deposit or $2500 account balance. RIDICULOUS. Over double what most banks require. And all this needs to come with some kind of added benefit, right? Nope. The features and benefits BMO offers are literally nothing more than what any other bank will offer. Oh cool, if you live in Illinois you can get a Bulls or Blackhawks logo printed onto your BMO MasterCard. Please take all my money! Oh, and their banking app will go from being competent to complete garbage all of a sudden over a new "redesign" that is completely unnecessary. Thank you BMO!!!! $35 fee for overdraft, typical for banks, except the fee is taken out IMMEDIATELY and not at the end of business day, something that makes no sense and can make single mistakes you sometimes have zero control over cost you money even if you have the ability to remedy them immediately. And then a 7-day-a-week overdraft account fee of $5 per day???? I've never heard of anything like that. And unsurprisingly, their overdraft protection options are complete and utter garbage, limited entirely to applying for a line of credit for 99% of people (which you'll always get denied for if any of your credit scores are below 620 or you make under $25000 a year). Thank you BMO!! Please continue to bully the little guy and line your pockets by ruining others' lives!!!!! Ditch BMO and use Aspiration or Capital One like a sane person. Or better yet, use PayPal, because they actually offer almost just as much as BMO does with a $0 required deposit, no credit check, no fees, etc.
