Cancel land line

PLEASE, I have been trying to cancel my land line for 2 days now. HOW do I do it??? I have been on hold 2x now when using 866-405-****. I just called 888-546-**** and finally got a hold of a foreigner. Asked for all my information. Once I gave him my credit card # which he said he had to have for verification to cancel, theDonD guy disappeared. Now I am scared to death someone will be using my credit card. I also tried to chat and it was going to cost $1 and they wanted my credit card info. Not a chance. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!
