Beware! Unlicensed Home Improvement Contractor
1
So, I go into my local carryout and see this fake business card posted! Awhile ago, I learned that this is an unlicenced buiness/contractor while I was in search of a contractor to do some outside stone work to my home in MD. After researching and performing a license check, I found that this is not a licensed contractor nor legit business, and I reported it the Maryland Home Commission Investigation Unit! I have since moved to the District of Columbia, and imagine my shock while getting my morning cup of coffee, and I see that this con artist, this fraud has brought his scam to DC once reported and caught by MD. Please protect yourself! The contractor's name is Lamont Carney. He will frequently change the name of his business to masks his illegal practices! Business names he has been known to use - Carney Chimney King, Carney Brick & Stone, and Chimney King! They are all one in the same! Did you know that you can run a license check on any business? In MD, any home improvement business must have an MHIC License Number to perform home improvement work in the State of Maryland (nearly all states and the District of Columbia) have this requirement! If you suspect that a home improvement contractor is operating without such a license, then it is your right and your duty to report such malfeasance and protect unsuspecting consumers! For MD, you can download the complaint form at dllr.maryland.gov/license/mhic, and mail it to the address at the top of the page! In DC, you can email your complaint to d***@dc.gov or call (202) 442-4400!
