Chocolate frosting is grainy or gritty

Purchased this frosting for my daughters birthday cake. It was all grainy textured. Looked odd and when I tasted it, it was gritty. Could not use on the cake. Had no other frosting. Very disappointed as Duncan Hines is my favorite cake and brownie go to. Ive never seen this before. User's recommendation: Look at the bottom of the container. If it looks gritty it is.
