Central Maryland Urology Associates in Columbia, Maryland. My daughter had been suffering severe pain for weeks with a kidney stone big enough to pose a serious health risk. She was scheduled to receive a procedure with CMUA to remove the stone. On the day of the procedure, their office manager intended to charge us fees that exceeded our remaining deductible by over $300. We called our insurance provider who made a conference call to the manager. The service rep had to argue with her for 10 minutes before she agreed to correct the fee. Then, she retaliated by adding a fraudulent $40 co-pay. The service rep told the office manager repeatedly that we could not be charged for the co-pay but she refused to withdrawal it. She even tried using my daughter's condition as a guilt-trip tactic to coerce me into paying the fee saying "isn't her health worth it?" This was during a conference call with the insurance service rep on the line. When we got to the surgical center and wouldn't pay the $40, the manager refused to allow my daughter to have her procedure. When we handed the office staff a check for the $250+ that we owed, the manager refused to accept it and wrote "VOID" on it. The manager then threatened to call the police if my daughter didn't leave. The treating physician was present and fully aware of what his manager was doing. Yet he did nothing to stop her. He later sent a letter to my daughter terminating his services as her physician. As bazaar as this incident may sound, it is ABSOLUTELY true! It is in the process of being reported to several authorities including the MD Board of Physicians and the American Medical Association.
