Cannot connect landline to new modem. All others e.g. t.v., mobile and laptop i have connected but not the landline.

I have received a new modem. I have connected t.v., mobile and laptop to wifi but cannot connect landline to anything. It says to check phone connection.?????? please help. Thank you Betty
