Dr. Chinyere Lawrentia Okeke married her cousin in an effort to try to become a U.S. citizen. She lied when filling out federal forms (like her application for naturalization, and she lied during an interview with federal officials about what she wrote in her application for naturalization. She falsified federal forms and lied about that -- all in trying to become a U.S. citizen. However, she's still a certified MD. I guess that kind of stuff doesn't matter to the Nevada Medical Board. Chinyere Okeke, born in Nigeria, is a medical doctor – an M.D. -- in Nevada. Dr. Okeke is board-certified as a family physician in Las Vegas and licensed to practice in the state. She has affiliations with a number of hospitals -- Mountain View, Spring Valley, and St. Rose Dominican. She also is registered with and licensed by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) to prescribe medication to patients. But how can this doctor be trusted to prescribe medicine, which can open up a whole host of moral issues and conflicts, after lying to the federal government about her marriage and her status in the U.S.? Dr. Chinyere Okeke was born in Nigeria in 1971 and came to America. In 2001, she married Ernest Madu, a man who just happens to be her cousin. Not three years later, in 2004, she filed for and was granted a divorce from Madu. Then, in 2005, Dr. Chinyere Okeke filed an Application for Naturalization to become a citizen in the U.S. She had to fill out a Form N-400, and she had to certify in writing and orally in an interview that the information she wrote on that form was absolutely true. But it wasn't true. How do we know this? Because she came under federal indictment for lying on the form. She said she was still married to Madu. She wasn't. They had been divorced for more than a year when she filled out the form. She said she not only was married to Madu, but that she had been living with him as his wife for three years. She hadn't been. And let's not forget that Madu was her cousin! But based on her answers, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services approved her application to become a naturalized citizen of the U.S. She then was sworn in as a U.S. citizen during a naturalization ceremony and took the Oath of Allegiance of the U.S. (Cert. No. 2858****) The federal government found out about her lies and Dr. Chinyere Okeke was indicted for "presenting false information on her immigration application, making a false statement under oath related to her immigration application, and unlawful procurement of naturalization to become a U.S. citizen." How do you trust someone like this? How do you trust someone who marries her cousin to help her become a U.S. citizen? How do you reconcile this supposedly well educated woman who marries her cousin, gets divorced, applies for citizenship by lying on her application form and to federal officials about her circumstances, and then eventually obtains that citizenship? Only the people closest to her -- certainly not her patients -- know about this. If this is a demonstration of the kind of morals she has, doesn’t this call into question her entire medical practice? Especially when it comes to prescribing medications? How do you trust a woman like this? If I were one of her patients, I’d certainly need to reconsider my treatment under her and probably consider going to another doctor. Be careful with her. You don't know her full story, but now, perhaps, you do. There are plenty of doctors out there who don't have the kind of issues of moral turpitude that she does. How she still has a license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada is beyond me.
