AAA Refused to tow car home

AAA towed my car to repair facility. The garage quoted a transmission repair of 3,000. I cannot afford this. So I called AAA to tow car home. They refused to help because they said they already towed it to garage. So, should I try to drive it home, and then if it fails, now I will be endangered because I may stuck in the middle of the road?
