Will Not Accept Payment Other than Cheque and Lying about the reason

I was ready to order from Universal Pet Meds Canada as I had used them a few years back and found the service to be excellent. My vet had faxed in the prescription when I realized the only payment method was a cheque or money order. I inquired about this and was told that credit card companies will not accept credit card payments from online pharmacies. Investigation revealed this to be incorrect. The lady on the phone could barely speak English and seemed mostly concerned about when I was going to send my cheque. Everything inside me is saying suspicious, possible fraud, and more. In this day and age no credit card payments, no e-transfers or debit. Plus up to 8 weeks to get the product versus 2 - 3 weeks from other online pharmacies that accept proper payment methods. I am concerned that I may send this company money and never see the product. They sure have changed in the past 5 years. Do I have a reason to be concerned?
