Expired product on shelf

Bought face cream on sell on 21/04/18. Got home opened box and discovered that the cream best before date was 2020 09. Took back on 21/04/16 to exchange it was told it was no longer on sale and would have to pay full price. I JUST WANTED TO EXCANGE THE CREAM. User's recommendation: I WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO SHOPPERS YOU KNOW THERE IS A REXALL.
