Rust on auger in ice maker

I have an LG refrigerator that has had one issue after the other. The most recent is rust on the auger in the ice maker. The appliance is now just out of warranty. LG is refusing to cover the cost of a diagnosis or repair. I guess this is a common issue in their ice makers. User's recommendation: DO NOT PURCHASE LG APPLIANCES!
