Customer retention NIGHTMARE!

After, not using my American Express card for over a year, I decided to close my account. While being polite, they wouldn't take no for an answer. I was switched to a customer retention agent BUT when they couldn't help me they wanted to give me the customer retention agent. That was he was represented to be and had already kept trying to get me to leave it open. Their interest rates available to the best of credit scores is higher than my highest card, which is Discover. I finally got it closed after telling them I would just send a registered letter and contact their corporate offices. NEVER AGAIN!! User's recommendation: Shop around!
