They have a very unprofitable exchange rate

I have accounts with two different banks, and I actively use the services of each of them. But it so happened that I paid for my purchases in foreign online stores with cards of another bank and everything was always in order. For example, the exchange rate can always be viewed on the website or in my personal account, there were no additional commissions. But I needed to make a purchase and pay with a card of this bank, moreover, I have an open card in American dollars, and a British online store, respectively, payments are charged in pounds sterling. I looked in my personal account for the exchange rate and when I couldn’t find it, I contacted the operator to clarify. I was told the exchange rate (it turned out to be not very profitable), but I agreed to pay for my purchase, since it was urgent and there was no time to look for a more economical payment option. At first, the amount was withdrawn from my account, as I expected, but after a few days, about 0.5% of the original amount was debited from the account. When I contacted the operator, he explained to me that it was a course correction. It is very strange, why, then, on the website or in my personal account, the exchange rate is not indicated at which I myself could make calculations.
