Yearly fees totally unfair

After being a loyal Bee customer for over 50 years, I discovered my mother was paying over $850.00/year for her subscription while her neighbor across the street was paying less than $300.00/ year! I made several calls on behalf of my 97 yr. old mother and was only told her neighbor must have gotten a special “promotion”. The person I spoke with tried to make adjustments but only got the rate down to a fee that was still over $700.00/year. I told her that was not good enough. On top of it all, I had made several calls earlier requesting the paper to be delivered on the porch and not on the driveway (which only happened a few times). I also learned from other friends, the only way to get a cheaper rate was to totally cancel the paper and be contacted by a 3rd party, who would likely offer a lesser rate. Regardless, I cancelled my mother’s subscription. She will share the paper with her friend that is getting it for less than $300./year!!! The Bee obviously doesn’t care about customer retention.
