Question re: Zulily Feb 15th Store Online App Purchase

I made my 1st purchase through my Rakuten App on my phone today, Feb. 15th, & just have a question regarding the 1% ZULILY Store rebate. Is the rebate on the subtotal of the merchandise before shipping & taxes or the grand total? I chatted with the App assistant & I think I got the answer that the rebate is only on the subtotal & that is what I was given, but just wanted to make sure if that is the case for future reference.
