The AARP/United Health Care Medicare supplement Plan F is among the highest priced in the country, yet they just canceled Silver Sneakers coverage. This will have the effect of adding about $600 a year to our wellness costs because we use Silver Sneakers to cover the cost of our gym memberships. In comparing costs of other medigap plans, I found that the AARP plan premium is higher than every plan but one. By switching to Aetna's Plan F, we can save about $1200 a year, which will more than cover the cost of our "Y" memberships. AARP is supposed to advocate for members, but it's hard to see how charging higher prices while reducing benefits, is at all helpful to its members.
