On Tuesday, 3/30/2021, I was terminated from my job with Werner trucking. the reason given was because I 3 incidents during my driving time with them. These incidents were very minor and one was not properly investigated. When I began to work with Werner I was given a designated family dollar account. I was sent on 28 day training for over the road training. When I returned I was given 1 day of training on the family dollar account. I was then sent to work picking up and loading and unloading shipments. 1 day of training was not enough. So while in Louisiana I backed into a family dollar and ran over a grass area of a bank. it was difficult to back in and it was not a large area. A complaint was filed but the investigation was done with google maps instead of someone actually going to see what I was attempting to explain. I was call a liar. The other 2 incidents I accepted full responsibility for. I knocked the tip of a pole off at a family dollar in Jacksonville Florida. Then as I was backing out and slightly damaged the truck. There was no property damage ever done other than the grass and the small damage to the truck which was fixed with little effort. My problem is I was not trained properly to do this job and was expected to do the job without mistakes. I am a new CDL truck driver and I wanted a fair chance to pursue my new career. I do not believe I was given a fair chance with Werner. Before they terminated me they decided to do a background check on me and it was explained to me that they wanted to see if I was lying about anything else. When it came back that I had no record I was told that "yes, we see that you have no criminal record but you have had 3 incident so we have to fire you per the head office in Omaha." I felt that this was done because I am a young black man. A background check should have been done before I was hired. The gentleman had already stated that he wanted to make sure I wasn't lying about anything else. I'm sure they also saw in the background check that I am a veteran. Then I had to have my father to drive to the terminal from Pensacola Florida to get me. They did not want to immediately get me back home.
