Unholy practice of renewal without notifying the customer

I purchased this product to complete an exam. There is no option in their offering for a 1 time 3-month offer. I purchased a three-month subscription offer... (thinking that the company would remind as most companies do) of the upcoming automatic renewal. Of course, there is no reminder except when they charge me on the day of renewal, and I am not offered any recourse to cancel the current 3-month subscription. This is absolutely a bad practice and should be illegal. I am going to file a claim with CA department of consumer affairs. User's recommendation: Please make sure to put a reminder in your calendar or something to cancel the subscription at least a month before it renews.
