Trailer Purchase Deposit Agreement

My Dad looked at a trailer out of town. The salesperson told him to give him a check $1,000.00 to put with the buyer information on the trailer and if he decided not to buy it he would rip it up or send it back to him. Dec 29, 2012 is the date. Check was signed for 01/02/13, it went thru the bank the very next day on the 3rd. My Dad spoke to him and told him he was not going to purchase the trailer. When he called to find out about the check, he was told the salesman was out and the owner took all the checks he found in the salesman's desk and took them to the bank he would have to get back with him. They have not given my Dad his money back. He is a hard working man and is his own sole support at almost 70 years old. These people took advantage of him and his money. The contract says nothing about a deposit or anything. Basically, they stole his money. If they told my Dad they wouldn't give him his money back if he didn't purchase it, do you really think he would just give them $1,000.00???? Don't think so.
