After several attempts to speak with someone at the Richmond office and several promises of calls that never materialized, I've given up on getting a response from them, much less action. Last Tuesday, my neighbors had Michael and Sons come out to fix a leak in their water line between the meter and their house. I came home to find my vehicles covered in a thick layer of concrete dust (both caustic AND abrasive), 6 inch deep ruts in the median in front of my house, an unsecured open pit partially on my property, and their trash filling my recycling bin. These guys weren't using any dust remediation or wearing personal protective equipment (respirators and face shields) when using their concrete saw. It's no surprise, then, that they took inadequate precautions to fence off the gaping hole they've left here for the past 6 days and made no attempt to fill in the 6"x 30' long ruts they created in the public space. As the owner of a construction outfit myself, I am shocked that a company the size of Michael and Sons doesn't appear to care about the level of liability they're leaving themselves open to, much less the optics of trashing public and private property adjacent to their work site. This is the response I received from The Michael and Sons customer service representative, which is a complete fabrication. Of course dust can be remediated if you can be bothered to follow OSHA guidelines and connected the water inlet on the concrete saw. I should know; I use one in my own line of work. How the ruts in the median across the road caused by driving your vehicle on the grass were necessary to accomplish digging a 2 foot hole underneath a patch of concrete is beyond me, as well.
