Scam – took money and personal info

Site purports that you are getting a passport ** paying the fee and doing application, but they are not gov't affiliated and cannot issue a passport. Order Number XXXXXXXX. The business is the first to come up on a search engine for us passports. It is purposefully misleading consumers to thinking they are completing a government application and paying the passport *** of $70, but they are not affiliate with the government. From what I can tell they are just charging $70 to fill out an application then you will have to go through the process with the government and pay for your passport **** them. I work closely with internet scams and this one is very convincing. It was not until I noticed the email after the transaction did not come from a .gov account that I investigated and found this site is purposefully misleading. Further troubling is that the email I received included the following language: "Important Notice: We Strongly object to chargebacks or bank disputes and any dispute that we feel has been made with false intentions will be reported to the Local Federal Authorities. We take these matters very seriously. And if any claims are found to be fraudulent we will prosecute..." I feel this is an abhorrent scare tactic to dissuade frightened consumers from filing complaints. The site does have an accept popup stating they are privately owned, however the beginning of the popup starts in on a description that it is illegal to travel to foreign countries without a passport ******* consumers to believe it is just on that topic. It's further down, buried beneath that you see it says it is not government affiliated. It is worth noting you do not have to click accept to continue on the website. If you click off to the side, you still continue without having accepted this. When you click to start the application it just starts with the information gathering. It does not state you are not applying to the government directly. I was charged $70 by this insidious scam. I want that total $70 refunded immediately. I believed myself to be applying to the government for a passport, supported by the cleverly disguised scam, and that is simply not the service being rendered.
