SCAM COMPANY!!! Fraud!!!

1

I fell for the same scam as everyone else. I received a call from Owen Bruno | Reservations Specialist | NTA Travel Phone: 1 (87*) 777-**** | Fax: 1 (86*) 666-**** travel@***.travel | www.nta.travel Business License: NV201******** ; Entity Number: E027471****-*; Seller of Travel License: ST40668 about making reservations for a conference a few months away. I told him I always make my own reservations at my usual non-conference hotel. He asked which hotel and offered a rate about 10% cheaper than the hotel's website. I said I still wanted to handle my own reservations but he was very aggressive about trying to get me to pay the lower rate. I asked point blank if I would have any trouble cancelling if necessary. He said I could cancel anytime up until 72 hours in advance. Nothing was said about a deposit or that this was a pre-paid reservation. I said I wanted my frequent program # attached to the reservation. No problem. So I agreed and signed the forms he sent - unfortunately without looking at them closely, my bad. A week later an unfamiliar cc charge appeared. I called the number associated with the charge and asked what it was for. An Adam Reid told me this was a deposit for the reservation. Looking at my files, I saw that I had never received the email confirmation Owen said he would send. Adam sent it. When I looked at the documents and saw the info on the deposit AND that the balance was due in three weeks, I immediately sent an email saying I wanted to cancel, that they misrepresented the situation and this was fraud. I soon received a call from Danny. I tried to cancel the reservation for more than 20 minutes but he kept trying to convince me into it. I said I had to get off the phone but he wanted to keep talking so I said he should call back later. He did call back but I didnt hear the phone. His message said that I had signed a contract and I was obligated to pay the 25% deposit (what I was charged) if I cancelled. I sent another angry email insisting I wanted a full refund, that I was submitting a Dispute Transaction with my credit card company. This morning, Jack Hesky called. He said I had signed a contract and it wasnt their fault if I didnt read it (unfortunately true). I said I had a right to cancel right away and they needed to act in good faith. He said that if I had cancelled within 24 hours yes, but I had waited a week. I had never received the paperwork until the day before. He acknowledged listening to the calls I had made when I asked. I wanted him to hear the misrepresention. At the end, he said he would get back to me in 24 hours. I asked what was the point if they werent going to refund the charge? Never heard from him again. While I dont expect to see the refund at this point, I am filing this complaint with the BBB, I am disputing it with my cc company and changing the card so I dont have to worry about them charging the card again, and I am notifying both the hotel and the trade show about what happened. I will look for Yelp, Google and other review sites and post this complaint as well. I hope no one else does business with this company. My bad for not going with my instincts and not reading the form thoroughly. I never thought twice about it since I had never encountered such a misleading situation before. My bad for taking an unsolicited call. If I had been told that it was pre-paid, I may or may not have gone through with the reservation but at least I would have made the decision based on an honest pitch. But the way they sold it without saying that, even when I specifically questioned how the reservation would be handled, it left an ugly taste in my mouth. These guys really dont let you get off the phone until you agree to something. User's recommendation: AVOID COMPANY! SCAM!!!
