Ruining my credit score for reporting I defaulted on a loan for a fee they charged that I was not aware
1
I went to the credit union in 2017 and asked how much to pay off my whole balance in my Over Draft protection. They told me the amount I need to pay in full and I paid it. Since I paid it off in full, I did not use the account any longer since I use another bank for checking. A few months later I found out I have a bad mark on my credit report. I looked in detail and found out that GoldenWest reported that I defaulted on a loan as a chargeoff for $16. I called the credit union and they said that it was for the overdraft protection balance that I did not pay off. I said that I did pay it off and they said that it shows that I paid off the full balance but then there was a fee that came through a day later for a few cents or something, then they charged me a late fee for not paying it. They made no attempt to contact me that I was ever in the default. I still had a HELOC loan with them at the time and made payments to them in person all the time, and sometimes over the phone, and I had them look up my account each time to ask them how much I owed and not once did they ever mention the $16. How easy it would have been for me to pay it off several times if they just told me. I have contacted them several times over the years to see if there is something I could do to pay the $16 and get it off my credit report, and every time they are rude and patronizing telling me I should have logged in and looked at my account, and they are unwilling to help me in any way. I would not recommend them at all for just the fact they won't work with you for mistakes, they don't communicate with you well, and bad customer service as a whole. But to send just a $16 dollar amount as a chargeoff to hurt your credit for years to come when you also have another $50,000 loan with them that you are paying on time every month is just asinine and unethical. Very sickening they would do this to a member. A quick call from them telling me did I needed to pay $16 instead of sending it as a charge off would have been the honorable thing for them to do. I would highly recommend using another Credit Union. If they are willing to do this for one customer, they will do it to another. User's recommendation: Warning! do not use them, they are unethical.
