My complaint against Delta Airlines happened on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). Mine and my wife's flight, DL0935, was from Salt Lake City to Detroit Metro Airport. It left Salt Lake City on time and arrived in Detroit a few minutes early. We were scheduled to land at 11:43PM but we landed at exactly 1130pm. I know this because it was at that time I texted a friend that we arrived and needed to be picked up. We taxied to the gate and stopped. It was at this time that the pilot informed us that there was no one at the gate to guide us in and that we had to wait for someone because they were off assisting other planes. So, my first question is, if you know you have several planes coming in at the same time (I know this because of what took place in the baggage area), why don't you have more ground personnel working? At 11:50pm I again texted my friend to tell him that we haven't moved from our original spot. Approx. 3 minutes later we began moving and were able to park at the gate. Upon exiting the aircraft, we discovered that we were at Gate 78 in the Delta terminal. That Gate is at the very far end of the terminal. As we walked to baggage claim, we noticed that all the other gates were unoccupied. So, question two, why couldn't Delta park us at a gate closer to the center of the terminal when there was no other people or planes in the airport? Upon arriving at the baggage claim area, it was 11:15pm, and I texted my friend that we were now waiting on our baggage at carousel #4. I then received a message from Delta via text, that my bags would be off within 20 minutes. I then noticed that there were bags coming off carousel 5 and I asked a person waiting which flight they were on and was informed a flight from Las Vegas. I then looked at the carousel electronic board and it listed 3 flights on it. The flights were Fort Meyer FL, Phoenix AZ, and Salt Lake City UT. The board said the Phoenix bags were completed, however, this was not true. The carousel started up and luggage started coming off from the Phoenix flight. When that was completed, the carousel stopped moving and passengers from the Fort Meyer flight and the Salt Lake City flight were now waiting. It should be noted that I took pictures and video of everyone sitting around because of the long delay. My first picture is time stamped 12:36am. The video is time stamped 12:39am. I have another picture time stamped 12:51am where people/passengers are still standing around waiting for their luggage. Now remember, I was notified that my bags would be off in 20 minutes. At this time, the carousel started moving and people from carousel 6 area began coming towards carousel 4. These passengers arrived from a flight from Atlanta. Now on the electronic board at carrousel 4, the Atlanta flight was listed with the time of 12:54am. I previously failed to mention the Salt Lake City time was listed at 12:22am. The bags now coming off on carousel 4 were the bags from the Atlanta flight. The passengers on my flight from Salt Lake City and passengers from Ft. Meyer FL were still waiting on our bags. The board, at 12:59am said the Atlanta and Fort Meyers bags were now unloading. It should be further noted that I have pictures of the electronic board at 12:59am which is the same time stamp the picture was taken on my phone. As bags started coming off, people removed them from the carousel. At this time I noticed mine and my wife's bag were coming up and off the ramp onto the carousel. I picked our bags up from the carousel and took a photo of the electronic board at 1:06am. Numerous people, including my wife and I waited almost one hour for our luggage. Well beyond the 20 minute text we got stating that our bags would be there. Our friend, waited the entire time for us. So, question three, if Delta knew they had flights coming in from Las Vegas, Phoenix, Fort Meyer and Salt Lake City, why wouldn't they have more personnel working? I understand COVID and all that but if you know you have these many flights coming in why not have the personnel to guide the planes to a gate and to unload the luggage from the plane? Hundreds of passengers on all the flights were put out and inconvenienced because Delta doesn't care or are mismanaged.
