The last 2 times I purchased Pilgrim's Pride whole chicken which is vacuum sealed in a plastic wrapper they were both coated with an oozing slime which had the appearance of egg white. Each came from a different store so it was probably not an issue of handling either. The product is just plain bad. It ruined my meal twice. After the first one I assumed the store had mishandled the chicken. But this time I purchased from a different store on purpose to avoid the problem and guess what? Same problem. It's the quality of the Pilgrim Pride Chicken Company that is the issue. I'd avoid all their products until they prove they can clean up their act.
