Payment Allocation Resets Itself
3
Periodically, I will elect to have a charge for a 6 month or longer promotional balance on large projects or appliance purchases. There is an option on the Synchrony Finance website where you designate the allocation of your payments. I have selected the payments to pay for the non-promotional charges first and the balance to cover the promotional charge balance. I recently made an in store charge to take advantage of the 5% discount because the charge was almost $150.00 and came home that afternoon and paid more than the charge actually was. Additionally, I made another payment for the month on my account of $100 when the minimum for the promotional financing was $25. Subsequently, I received the statement for this month and I incurred finance charges for the charge I made and thought I was paying to cover those costs. When I contacted Synchrony, I discovered ,during the course of our conversation, that my designation for payment allocation had changed from the OPTION 3 to option 1 - payment goes to promotional financing. This is not the first time this setting has arbitrarily changed in the website settings. A person has to physically go to this option under PAYMENTS on the Synchrony Finance website Home page and then you have to select the option for the distribution of the payment and then "Update the Selection". I enjoy shopping at Lowe's but I wish they had someone other than Synchrony (and their customer service or lack thereof) to handle their credit charges or at least have Synchrony fix this issue!
