Paid for a service that was still covered by warranty

i had purchased a vehicle on February of last year . My alternator went out in December . I called enterprice and they had told me that the warranty didn't cover it. Since my wife uses that vehicle for my kids I took it to a shop and got it fixed I paid $400. Then I get a call from the office and they tell me that it would be covered by pep boys since they check the cars that are going to be sold to take it to them.Told them that I already fixed it because they had told me that the warranty wouldn't cover it. They told me to send over the invoice to get reimburse d for the amount. I got a call today and they told me that they wouldn't be able to get me my money back since it wasn't taking thru the procedure on filing a claim. The problem is that it wasn't my fault. Why would I spend $400 on something that I could've gotten fixed for free. Now I'm out that money
