I reproduce below a copy of my interaction with a TPB moderator, after I found that I could not log in to my account. I want to add that I wonder whether the real motivation of the "locking" of the account was a desire to suppress OTHER material uploaded by me but which it was desired not to object to explicitly. BEGIN QUOTED TPB FORUM EXCHANGE: ==================== posted on SuprBay (pirates-forum.org) 2019-11-11: Subject: Can not log in at TPB [from asc11] asc11 is my TPB user name, has been for maybe 20 years. Now the last password I can find does not produce a login. Can not enter an accepted e-mail address to recover password (should be ***** or *****). Could possibly be related to an extortion effort which I suffered a few months ago. I strongly wish to continue to have the same old user name on TPB. Can you help? Thanks. ====================== [from Vox /TPB MODERATOR / Foxy Voxy] Posted by Vox - 1 hour ago Your account was locked after routinely failing to seed your minor subtitle updates. How difficult can that be for files that are generally less than 15mb? What's the point of posting them in the first place if you're unwilling to seed? ======================= [from asc11] I just checked, and all of the torrents whose names start with "*****" are seeding. They have been seeding whenever possible, too. Only "*****" has not been downloaded at all. The others have been downloaded 2 or 3 times each (in addition to whatever further distribution by the original downloaders). You are presumably aware that the number of seeders shown on TPB is notoriously unreliable. Often I have downloaded torrents for which zero seeders is displayed. It is also relevant, and I think rather evident, that generally each update includes all of the files from previous versions, so that there is no need for a first-time downloader to take any version earlier than the last. I think that taking so drastic a step as locking my account without even the courtesy of an explanatory e-mail, and for a user with a long and good history, is overzealous and inappropriate. ======================= [from Vox /TPB MODERATOR / Foxy Voxy] 34 minutes ago Mods will never send users an "explanatory" or any other email because that contact information is strictly confidential. Your account was locked to ensure we had your attention. You only began seeding when I forced the issue and your latest update, all whopping 14mb of it, took two full hours to download. That is unacceptable and has nothing to do with the unreliable seed counts listed on the site. The account will remain locked until we have your assurance that all new torrents will be fully and immediately seeded. ======================= [from asc11] > You only began seeding when I forced the issue... This is an absolute falsehood. You are calling me a liar. In the future, I will seed reasonably and for a long time, my own torrents and those of others, JUST AS I HAVE DONE IN THE PAST, on The Pirate Bay or elsewhere. ======================= END OF QUOTED TPB FORUM EXCHANGE 24 hours later, I still have been unable to log in to my account, and no further communication has been received from the moderator. Perhaps I will have an opportunity to add here later that this matter can only be resolved to my satisfaction by the termination of this moderator's moderation activities. By the way, it seems that the person, like a non-artist art critic, has not shared any content whatsoever on TPB, and so can not possibly know what complexities and complications regularly arise for an uploader.
