No system for getting gas back on

I need to have my gas turned back on and my appliances tested. I called to schedule an appointment and the only thing that I was told was that I need to be home and if they would give me no idea when they would be there between now and the next couple of weeks. I need to work. I need to leave the house to find a warm shower. I need to leave the house for meals. I was told that if I miss the gas company they will leave a note on my door and I will have to start the process over again. This is on except a bowl with no consideration of homeowners. A fifth grader can schedule the cruise within certain working districts and give the consumer a window.
