Monitronics installed a system in my home. When installing, they spliced the electric power supply for the system into the ac outlet that was nearby. This caused arcing (sparks to fly) and within a month burned out the transformer of the unit which began to smoke. I had to take the outlet on the wall apart and disconnect the power supply to the unit. There were bare wires without caps on them. I was lucky I did not have a fire in my home. While all this was going on I was continuously calling Monitronics for help and no one answered the phone. I made at least 20 phone calls and as time passed with no service from them they continued to take 42.00 dollars out of my checking account every month. I paid 18 months for service I did not receive. I eventually got a hold of the corporate offices who told me they "closed" the Huntsville AL office but has reopened and would send someone out. When the person came out they acknowledged that the transformer was burned out and it would cost me approx. 500.00 to restore service. I declined. Monitronics eventually accepted responsibility for their negligence in this situation and stated they would forgive the rest of the contract. Fast forward 2 years to yesterday, received a letter from a collection agency stating owed $516.41, the original amount was 416.00. Not OK.
