A salt residue stain appeared on one side of the base of my MSD34C salt storage tank. I cleaned up the salt stain and I called customer service. They had me perform a manual recharge of the system while the representative stayed on the line. I verified there was no water leaking out of the valve and lines and watched the water raise in the float tube. There was no water on the back of the exterior of the salt storage tank from the head down. The representative said it may only be a slight crack and it may take some time for the issue to reappear. The stain has reappeared so I called the CS department again. New CS representative wants me to spend 3 1/2 hours around the house to determine where it is leaking. He says he wants to make sure he sends the correct part so I don't waste my time replacing the plastic storage tank. The reality is the salt storage tank is warranted for 10 years while everything else is just one year and he is hoping not to have to replace the salt storage tank under warranty. The system was installed in January 2011. Its a simple fix, shut off water supply, pull the two clips, slide the system out and pull the resin tank out of the old enclosure and put in the new enclosure, slide back in place, slide the retaining clips back on the bypass valve and turn the water back on. When I found the issue I purposely only been keeping a small amount of salt in the storage tank knowing it would be more difficult to swap out the old enclosures. I am sure having more salt in the tank will put more pressure on the base of the tank but this representative is just playing games.
