I recently was informed that my reservation for a night at the Manchester KOA was being canceled. Their reason was that they had a policy that you had to stay three days during a holiday weekend. Yet when I called to inquire about making a reservation, they did not inform me of this "policy". I made the reservation and my credit card was billed. The cancellation happened over a week later. There wasn't even an apology. However I was given the option to move my reservation to another day. This stop was one of many. To keep us from having to drive endless hours to reach our next destination. So moving it to another day was out of the question. Some might say a "reservation" is a form of contract, and that the property breaches the contract when it arbitrarily cancels a reservation. If I had cancelled the reservation I surely would have been charged. But as a practical matter, who has the time and resources to file a lawsuit against a campground for not honoring a reservation? Obviously this KOA knows this. They know they can get away with it. Interestingly, the federal government just increased the required compensation for passengers who are denied boarding when their flights are overbooked. The new rule doubles the amount of money passengers are eligible to be compensated for in the event they are involuntarily bumped from an oversold flight.
