Lied to upon signing up.

I was only to be in the area for 6 months and made that clear to the employer. He had me be sign up on credit card machine that had lengthily contract in small print on the tiny screen. When I tried to cancel by phone (at the beginning of Covid), I was told I had to come in. I refused due to Covid and cancelled my card. Now they are sending collection letters from a law firm while at the same time sending emails offering to forgive what they allege I owe if I sign up again. I view this as blackmail! User's recommendation: Stay away. Or at least make them print the contract and make notes on the contract and have them initial any promises.
