Invitation homes, a major rental company of houses, has destroyed mine and my families health. We moved into the house, we immediately told them the house smelled of gas. They sent us many reassurances that there was no gas. They sent people several times who said there was no problem. We complained many times of weird smells and sickness. After three months, and having major health problems that doctors couldn’t figure out. We called the gas company. The official from gas company said alarms were going off from the street. The HVAC unit gas line was spewing large amounts of gas into the house. Walls and attic were completely filled. Said it was going to explode at any point. He also noticed out of code work on gas lines. He tested all the smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms in the house. They were all faulty. The HVAC and stove were putting out large amounts of carbon monoxide. He has if we’d be having trouble getting up in mornings. We said yes, was very hard to wake up, and been having a very hard time getting kids up. He said that we would all be dead from carbon monoxide in a few days. Assuming the house didn’t explode first. Later on the HVAC unit collapsed into the kids bedroom spraying water everywhere. A few months later my wife burned her hand when put it on the wall. As it turns out the house was wired by someone who had no idea what they were doing. Quote from the maintenance tech who looked at it. If she hadn’t touched the wall the house probably would have burned down. The house has clearly had major water leaks in the past. We can see black mold. Complaints about this have been ignored. Some of the contractors have suggested we pay for independent testing to try and get the company to do something. Our health has been badly compromised. Wife could barely breath for a year. I’ve been in and out of the hospital. Had to go on and off disability from all of it. Any guests that stay with us end up getting sick. Family refuses to visit anymore. Invitation Homes has been very difficult to deal with, and done the absolute minimum they can get away to deal with issues. We will be moving out when lease is up. But the house is a deathtrap, and whomever moves in after us is going get sick. Regardless of how we resolve this, I don’t want other suffering what we have from this.
