I was ripped off and taken advantage of as a single woman living alone.
It was a telephone call marketing a $49 dryer vent cleaning. I scheduled an appointment. A young "tech" man came to the door and immediately asked if I had a husband. At first I told him I wasn't going to answer that. After pulling the dryer away from the wall, he called me over to see that the aluminum coil had a slit in it and it needed to be repaired. He again asked if I had a husband or son who could fix it. I said no - he said he could fix it. After looking at the top of the vent said there was a birds nest there and that's why my coil was cut. My initial cost of $49 turned into $274. I called the company and the owner called me back and offered 3 free cleanings. It was a scam and I felt vulnerable.
