I switched to GEICO for auto and condo insurance as it saved about $150/year over State Farm. At first renewal my condo policy (provided by Travelers through GEICO) increased from $280/year to $422/year - a 50.7% increase! The agent said that since my condo has built in sprinklers she could reduce the annual cost by $2 (wow!). If I want a discount for the central fire alarm system I would need to obtain from the HOA management company a Certificate of Installation. This would result in a whopping $1/year additional discount. What a joke! User's recommendation: GEICO is a good company, but be careful of low-ball initial policy prices, especially if they get you homeowner's, condo or renter's insurance through Travelers.
