Grainger throws away customers and orders without justification

1

Our company set up an account with Grainger, placed one order and paid for it. A few months later, we placed a second order and received an email stating that our order was cancelled with no explanation. After multiple calls and inquiries, with no call backs from Grainger, we were finally told that we had several open invoices that were unpaid and that those would have to be paid in order to purchase any more. We did not have any other orders and no other accounts. After many more calls to Grainger, we were eventually told that another company, completely unrelated to us, had open invoices, and that this other company was in the same building as us at one point in time. Grainger even provided copies of the invoices belonging to this other company to us which I felt was a serious violation of the privacy of this other company, even if that company does owe them money. It was a different name, different tax ID, different owners, different employees, and different permanent addresses. Yet because this other company had rented space in our building temporarily the year before and apparently had some open invoices with Grainger, then Grainger decided that we were not worth keeping as a customer. We were treated very poorly, never received any call backs as promised, and were thrown away without any respect at all. Our company has been in business for more than 15 years, and we have maintained perfect credit with all of our suppliers. Our company also has a well earned reputation for being pillars of our community. There was zero justification for Grainger to treat us poorly simply because their computer system decided that we had used a similar IP location as a completely different and unrelated company that owed them a balance. It was absolutely mortifying. We continually asked what we needed to do to resolve and prove that we did not have any relation to this other company. Grainger refused to even allow us the opportunity to clear it up. I have been in the business for over 25 years as a procurement manager and buyer, and I have never dealt with such awful customer service and lack of regard for a customer as the way that we were treated by Grainger. Our company genuinely values all the companies that we do business with, and we just expect the same in return. It was nakedly obvious that Graniger places no value on any of their customers at all. Very sad.
