Don’t do it’

To whom it may concern, My name is Keira DuHame and I am writing to you now to share my experience with Sussex Kia in Newton, New Jersey. The reason it has taken so long to write this is because quite honestly I have not had the stomach for it. Or the mental and emotional energy needed to do so sooner. In October 2018 we came to your dealership to trade in my lease with Kia of Sussex. I had called days prior and spoke to somebody at the dealership about trading in my lease for a newer lease or used vehicle purchase. They said it would be no problem. My husband and I came in with our Kia soul. We were interested in the Kia sportage. At the time a man approached us named Neal Wilson. I thought that he worked for the dealership, later to find out that he actually worked for an outside company that runs liquidation events. That companys name is Rush Hour Events. Then we were then told that the vehicle we were interested in was available for purchase on a 2016 used Kia sportage. We were then told that part of the event was that they can get us out of our contract agreement for our current lease and that we would also have down payment assistance toward this vehicle. Upon test driving this car we were interested in the deal that he had offered. Then he ran numbers for us and everything seemed good. We would be cutting our monthly cost, and getting into a used vehicle for purchase all while getting out of our lease agreement with Kia for our current Kia soul. It couldnt have been better. While we were outside on the lot there was also a 2015 Ford F150 for sale. My husband at the time had a leased Kia Optima. We were told that if we were interested in the truck that the same deal would apply to him as well. We were told that he could get out of his lease agreement on his optima and into this purchased used truck. Several times throughout the night when we were at the dealership Neal Wilson reiterated again and again that we were both in fact getting out of our lease agreement and would no longer be responsible for them with this incentive of purchased used vehicles. Several times Neal Wilson said that we would not be responsible for our lease agreements. That we were trading in our leased vehicles. That we would not longer be responsible for the remaining lease agreement payments. We were also advised to make stop payments on those current leases. Weve traded in leased vehicles in the past and were advised to do that also. Unfortunately we signed and were on our way out the door when we handed him our keys for the old leases. You know, thats what people do when they are under the impression they are trading in their vehicles. Then He told us that because it was a liquidation event that they couldnt have any cars on the lot. Then he proceeded to convince us that the BANK would come pick them up at our home in the next three business days. Reluctantly we left for home and were followed by our previous two leases driven by Neal Wilson and an associate of Kia. Again Neal said that the BANK would pick them up, gave us his personal number and left. That night I woke up out of a dead sleep and knew something wasnt right. My husband contacted Neal the next day, he reassured us that the bank would come get the cars and all is well. The BANK never came. In the meantime my husband brought his 2015 Ford F-150 into your exact dealership for four brand new tires. Such a slap in the face looking back on that. We waited, and waited and waited but the BANK never came to get the leased vehicles as promised from our driveway. Then I received a call from KIA FINANCE MOTORS ( this is who our leased vehicles were financed through ) they asked if everything was okay and said in the years that weve been in business with them we have NEVER missed a payment or been late. I told her that we traded them in and were advised to make stop payments. She said there was no trade in on neither mine or my husbands leased vehicle and that we were still responsible for making those monthly payments. We called Neal but naturally his phone was disconnected, literally as if it had been thrown into the Hudson River or something. Gone without a trace. We called the dealership, questioned them and were told we cant help you, sounds like you got taken advantage of taken advantage of? Now thats a cruel understatement. Then we received our first bills for our purchased vehicles sickeningly they had added every warranty, gap insurance ect. Anything they could. The interest was through the roof. Truly unheard of. No option to refinance in the future. The monthly payments were not what was discussed. There was no way we could afford them. Now between both used cars and the unbelievable amount of interest we owed roughly $80,000. Not to mention we were still responsible for our leased vehicles. This burden was now three times the amount on the mortgage of our new home. Our new home that we had not even been in two weeks before our visit to your dealership. Our new home that we saved our entire adult lives for. Our new home that we worked so hard and tirelessly for. Our new home that we planned to bring our first child home to just three short months after our visit at your dealership. Our new home that we could now no longer afford because of what you as a dealership lead us into. See for you, it doesnt matter. You got your money, you got your commission. But I will tell you one thing. We Will all have to answer to the creator of the universe one day. We all reap what we sow. Unfortunately for you, you will reap deceit, dishonesty and the consequences of what you have done not just to us but to many. Since our visit at your dealership we have had the Joy of our first childs birth destroyed, our first home is headed for foreclosure. We had to move home and live with family because we could no longer afford the expenses of our home. We had to pay lawyer fees. We were forced to voluntarily repossess FOUR vehicles. We had no choice but to declare chapter 7 bankruptcy. Everything we longed for, worked tirelessly for was taken away in one night at your dealership. We have nothing because of you. We both suffered severe depression. We grieved the loss of all of this. We are living in the consequences of your deceit, your dishonestly. It will take decades to rebuild what you have stolen from us. We were quiet until now. But we are ready to fight this. We are ready to let anyone and everyone who is willing to hear our story about what you did. This isnt over. This is just beginning. I work at a very reputable business in the area. I have and plan on continuing to tell everyone about your scams and schemes. Remember its never too late to right your wrongs. Sincerely, Keira DuHaime
