Canceling car rental

I am so frustrated. I reserved a car on Monday, April 12 for a trip at the end of the month. As soon as I hit the confirm button, I received an email from family telling me that the trip had to be canceled. I immediately called a Travelocity. I waited on hold for one hour. Then I called back and chose the option to none called back. I never received a call back. I tried the virtual assist and and was told I could not get a refund. I called again on Tuesday and repeated the same routine. It is now Ednesday and o am no closer to getting assistance. I am having a hard time trying to figure out why I would ever use or recommend Travelocity again.
