Cancelation issue

We booked through www.booking.com, and then we had to cancel our reservation which we did through the email but booking.com emailed us back saying that Doryman's Inn might charge us a cancellation fee then I called Doryman's front desk and I spoke with Andrea, and she said that they had no problem with us cancelling the reservation for 8/5 through 8/6 Andrea told me that I needed to call booking.com and tell them to call Doryman's front desk to confirm we had cancelled which I did, but I never got through. I was on a wait for about 10 mins.
