Bag charges

Just wanted to check baggage not carry on plane and the airline charged $100 and then when I get back to airport to fly home checked in on phone and went to counter to check my bags because I didn't want to carry them with me. To do that that allegiant rep charged me another $50 so all in all I paid $150 when I Thought there were no charges to check just to carry on ?
