Bad batch of paint purchased and store didn’t care

I bought a can of Valspar Aspire Exclusive Ever Luxe Formula paint to use on my front door. It was very thick but I stirred it and shook it and started to paint. The paint didn't spread smoothly or evenly and smelled off. I tried using 2 rollers and a brush to smooth it to no avail. Now I have to sand the door and start over. Ace Hardware (East Wenatchee) wouldn't do anything for me. I'm hoping Valspar will. User's recommendation: Open the can before you leave the store!
