Ambulance chasers

My wife and the rest of our extended family endured the hardship of my wife's father passing away this week. I his wallet I found a card from Neptune society (which is a cremation service) with a number to call in the event of his death, I called the number and first was told that I needed to call a different number (since the contract had been initiated in another city) they gave me the other number and I called it, they took all the required information to include which hospital he was at, this was at about 1400 hours and they said that they would be calling us back after they talked to the hospital. After a couple of hours had gone by without a call my wife called them, they gave her a run around and began asking her the same questions they had asked me, she gave them the information, again, just to be sure. She also called the hospital and asked if Neptune had contacted them, they said no and that they would let us know. This went on for several more hours back and forth until finally, about 1930 hours my wife called the hospital and was told that Neptune had called the hospital about two hours before and had said at that time that they would be there to pick up in 30 to 45 Min. Since this had not happened either my wife instructed the hospital to not release her father from the morgue unless she gave them direct permission (she has power of attorney). My wife then made arrangements with the local funeral home which the family has used many times in the past for my father-n-law. My wife then called Neptune back and told them that after waiting over five hours with no calls she had made other arrangements and was requesting a refund (since her father had prepaid with them). That started another fiasco in which she was told that her father had paid about $2700 dollars and that they were able to refund $800 dollars, come to find out, they (Neptune) had sent out a "flier" that my father-n-law had responded to and a "representative" had gone to his home and "discussed" this with him as well as had him sign a contract. My father-n-law had dementia, he lived on his own but became confused easily, Neptune told us that the customer has 30 days to reascend the contract (something the "legitimate" funeral home that we ended up using said was something that they had never heard of since their policy (and what is considered "standard") is that if you were to do a contract for the same thing with them and decided to do something different that they would refund ALL of your money. What a run around and at a time when you need it the least, please, please, please do NOT go to Neptune Society if you expect good service and fair treatment. PS, the price at the "real" funeral home for more service than Neptune offered him was the same price, (Neptune promotes that they are less expensive for people). What a crock, thanks for lessening the burden for my wife and our family.......NOT.
