Chateau de Ronziere – Gites de France

A booking for 4 adults was made via email at Chateau de Ronziere in Saint-Forgeux, France. It was to provisionally confirming 7 nights of accommodation. When in France and trying to find the establishent, their address did not appear on our GPS and we came close to giving up on the place entirely. Ended up arriving at 00h00 to what looked like a building site. Lugged our bags up an outdoor staircase, in the dark, to our room without assistance. We found that the host, Anne-Marie Jonnard, who refused to communicate in anything but French (thankfully one member of the party could communicate) came across very bossy and over-bearing. She left us notes in the mornings, informing us of things we had done wrong - parking in the wrong place and using an en-suite kitchenette without permission, for example. Due to poor location and a very unpleasant host, we decided to cancel the last 3 nights of the week we had booked - this saw us having to pay 50% of the rates for those nights (apparently this is a right that all French Gites reserve, but do not advertise). According to the "contract" we had entered with Gites de France, it entitles establishment owners to charge patrons the full rate for cancellations on bookings. In other words, we were being done favour! It was a truly unpleasant incident and almost ruined our whole French experience. I do not recommend this establishment to ANYONE!
