Parcel was lost

The delivery arrived at 16 March, but the delivery man didn't inform me and he put the parcel outside the building without message or call. I didn't notice the parcel until I checked online in the evening of 17 March, showing it was already delivered. However, it was lost. I checked everywhere, it was indeed lost. How could I know about it if there was no message? It's not responsible for him to do this. I'm a student, it's hard for us to make the parcel back. I have tried to contact campus security, but they said it was difficult to find it back. I would like to claim compensation for it. Because of no message, the parcel was outside for a long time, which caused the loss.
