Home Depot scheduled the delivery of a Samsung Washer to the house yesterday, 7/21/20201 between 3 and 7 pm. I left work early to meet the delivery and waited near the phone all afternoon. At 6:30 or so, I noticed that I had a call on voicemail from the driver stating he was on his way. I believe that due to a weak signal, (I live in a remote area in the country) the phone did not ring. At a little before 7p.m., I tried calling him several times but could not get an answer, kept going to his voicemail. At approximately 7:10 I finally got ahold of him but he said that he was there and left due to the gate being closed and he saw a "Beware of Dog" sign on the gate. I told him I am here and waiting all afternoon, could he just turn around but he said no, I would have to reschedule another delivery. I asked him how far away could he be in just 10 min and he started mumbling something (signal was breaking up) and then I just said I would cancel the order altogether. I did this because I do have dogs and my gate is always closed. Why he could not call me while at the gate or simply honk his horn, I will never know. For some reason, he simply did not want to deliver the washer. Since he specifically mentioned the dog sign, perhaps that scared him. Disgusted, I call HD customer service and cancelled my order, she was very apologetic and yet did nothing to save a customer. Today, 7/22/2021 I went back to Home Depot to get a refund and was told that I would have to wait a week or so, (the person was not sure) before they could do a refund. I had somewhere to be so I just accepted what she told me and left. Curiously, With everyone I have talked to from HD, no one made any effort to correct my situation, perfectly happy to lose a customer over a lazy third party delivery driver that couldn't make a call while at the gate or honk his horn. Perhaps he was new to the truck and did not know how to operate the horn or he feared his beer was getting warm. Tomorrow, I will go back to HD and ask to speak with a manager. To be so vague about returning such a large sum of money is unacceptable. Do not shop at this store for any reason! They totally lack any kind of customer service. They are so big that they think losing a customer is no big deal. I'm sure Montgomery Wards, Venture, Sears, Circuit City and a struggling JC Penny felt or feel the same way. In Springfield MO, there is also 2 Lowes, 2 Menards, a Sutherland and several True Value hardware stores, you would think that HD would put out a little effort. I will be exploring my alternatives.
