Annual fee refund

We opened a new Am Ex Gold business card in Q-1 of 2021. Paid annual fee in first 30 days as requested. Due to the national freeze crisis in Texas Feb 2021 we needed to cancel the card after the 30 day window but within 65 days of opening the account. We could not even use the cards because several retailers would not even take Am Ex. We asked for a refund for the fee but Am Ex said no since it was canceled after the 30 day window. Due the the freeze issues we could not even cancel the card till the 65 day.
